Restore Formica Table

THIS CRIB AND 'A FAKE - The true story of the nativity scene of Greccio between cows cured, dark caves and sacred groves.

"It's the first crib of the Christian tradition," he said. "San Francisco, on Christmas Eve of 1223, did appear on the baby Jesus manger, said he was too. And down talk, "Francis in Greccio made the first crib of baby Jesus with the Christian story of the ox and the donkey."

For goodness sake, do not go longer around to tell these stories. Sources hand, in fact, they are all false. And it is not dictated by the suspect forcing ideological atheism of the undersigned, to disavow these accounts, publicist disclosed for centuries by the Christian, in fact, we do not want crowds of fierce medieval just a simple reading of the documents. So why the manger who made San Francisco in a remote village nestled in the Apennines of Umbria and Lazio at the time was so successful?
As usual, to find the answers we need to uncover the role of the usual curious to tail and put Frank as the true detective, one of the paths along which it has established more than all the success. The Franciscan path of Greccio.
And the first question with which we must immediately deal is, but why in the holy Greccio decided to set up the crib? Why Francis chose this castle minor wreck of the High Middle Ages, a gesture intended to make the whole Christian community?
Thomas of Celano, Francis' first biographer, gives us very valuable clues to a story that, if the beginning is pleasant, almost idyllic, but in the end accept nothing short of disturbing implications ...

The saint willingly stopped in 'hermitage Greccio, and because she saw him full of poverty, because a cell is secluded, built on a prominent rock, he could devote himself more freely to contemplation of heavenly things. [...]
Now the villagers were suffering from various ills: swarms of ravenous wolves attacking livestock and people, and also the hail struck down every year and put screws. One day Francis, while preaching, he said: "To the glory and praise of Almighty God, hear the truth that we proclaim to you. If each of you will confess his sins and worthy fruits of penance, I give you my word that this scourge will move away permanently, and the Lord, looking at you with love, will be enriched with temporal goods. [...]
Since then, the merits and prayers of the holy father, stopped disasters, hazards and the wolves disappeared, and the storm went over harassment. Indeed, what is more surprising, when the hail pounded the fields of their neighbors and approached the border, stopped or there or headed elsewhere. But the tranquility
increased in number and too enriched material goods. And the health consequences brought the usual: sank his face into the fat and were blinded by pinguetudine or better from the dung of wealth. And so, in relapsed more faults, they forgot to God who saved them. [...] You woke up against them the wrath of God and first joined the scourges of war and outbreak came from heaven that made many victims. Finally, a fire destroyed the entire village avenger. It is fitting that those who
turns his back to the benefits perish.
(see ff. 621)

In two words, Thomas argues that the saint praised the amenity of Greccio and also appreciated the perfect Christian conduct of its inhabitants, only to unleash hell against the villagers guilty of having enriched and of having committed some venial peccadillo throat. Needless to say that history is nothing short of surreal, and forces us to debunk the myth of the universality of the crib.
What Francis did in Greccio on Christmas Eve of 1223 to convert the people of this miserable sinners was a fact confined to the inhabitants of the valley, which were coincidentally all shepherds and farmers, so narrowly that the holy Mass Greccio did not take place even in Greccio, but in a cave located along a sheep track of transhumance that rose up from the slopes of Mount Lacerone (above, a photo of the shrine today, with the buildings that hug the steep cliffs). Thomas recounts it with a fresh narrative that oozes with pathos and poetry, but it confirms our suspicions about the true nature of the strange ceremony of Greccio Christmas.

This night is as clear as broad daylight and delicious for men and animals! [...] The forest echoes of voices and the rocks echoing chorus of joyful. (Before Life by Thomas of Celano, cf. Ff. 469)

also Bonaventure, the biographer who in 1263 made a clean sweep of all the Lives of Saint Francis remained outstanding, in recounting the fact it was less.

[...] the forest echoes of voices and that venerable night becomes resplendent with innumerable lights, solemn and harmonious sound of praise. (from Bonaventure's Legenda Maior, cf. Ff. 1186)

Reading one is incredulous: Christmas Mass celebrated in a cave, complete with a procession in the woods? But Church leaders were aware of the fact?

Francis, the wizard who planted the trees

loggers. Yes, if someone asked what was the favorite pastime of the saints in the Middle Ages, the answer most relevant-although perhaps not the most gospel-is precisely this.
close our eyes for a moment and imagine anywhere uprooted trees and felled logs, worse, destroyed entire forests. It's the little idyllic landscape is painted in Europe since the fall of the Roman Empire until the end of the Middle Ages-and even beyond, in the eastern part of Prussia. From
provincial council of Carthage, who inaugurated the fashion back in 397 AD, to the synods of Alba (1626) and Alexandria (1702), prohibiting the holding of the festival in May, is a succession of crusades against the trees. Arbores demonibus consacratae, trees consecrated to the spirits of evil, they are the most dangerous rival with which all the samples of medieval hagiography are to be measured in the countryside. And among these seasoned preachers, there are those who leave us pens. How Adalbert, bishop of Prague, in 997 AD made object of a hectic launch javelins during a Mass celebrated on the altar which he had built shortly before recklessly, rather than a secular arbor. But when they are not Christians at the expense, the trees grow back the same, in spite of the zeal of the preachers. This is the case with the famous walnut Benevento, killed in 663 AD by Saint Barbato and miraculously grown back a few miles later, according to legend passed down in the Treaty of Benevento De nuce witch doctor Peter Piper. How about, instead of felled pine 'with heroic faith in the Lord "from St. Martin-Yes, that's what the coat-, bishop of the city of Tours?
But if this series of anecdotes and not enough want some more illustrious name-I know, some big news of the faith-which is always, then consider the paradigmatic case of Benedict of Nursia, currently favored by the holy Apostolic See; moved strong intent missionaries, arrived in that of Monte Cassino, the first thing you care to make Benedict was to destroy a grove sacred to Apollo which stood on the summit of Mt. But if the saints and preachers often wielded axes in front of beech and oak woods, the so-called 'secular' were certainly not less. Just think of the paladin, Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne, who in 772 AD, arrived in Geismar, Irminsul felled the oak sacred to the Saxons held because the axis of the world.
Yet medieval Christianity did not play against these beliefs, so rooted in the rural world to threaten the survival of many monasteries in the countryside at the dawn of the thirteenth century. The scene that emerges is more or less this: in front of advancing the new civilization city, bearer of the bourgeois values \u200b\u200bof trade and competition unknown to feudal world - "the reason of mercatura," as called then-Boccaccio, the secular clergy through a phase of deep decline, we are in the early '200. Holed up in Bishop's Palace in Perugia, Viterbo and Rome, forced to shuttle to avoid the heretical pauperistic storm raging in the city, the papal court is gradually losing control of the countryside, where the hearths pagan never switched off entirely. Urge a member of the Christian world which brings the church to his people, especially after the turn theocratic imposed by Innocent III in 1215 and continued by his successor Honorius.
from the corridors of the Lateran to the most minute huts of the countryside, he begins to talk of a man of deep charisma, which is a display of supernatural powers and was a broad consensus in spite of not a cleric, let alone a bishop, but a secular son of merchants, perhaps it is this detail to make it pleasing to the men and women whose sermon. His name is Francis, has already visited more than once in audience by the Pope to ask to be recognized by its fraternitas hierarchies. And despite the refusal of Pope Innocent, has not resigned, over time building a community of followers, especially in the countryside, between the old pagan, has its strong point. What is the real secret of his success? [Article continues here accompanied by many more images ...]

What To Write On A Coworkers Wedding Card

Hawks & birds ... and birds! STEP 7

In previous posts we saw in detail how this supposed holy animal, fond of pheasant until he promises to 's opportunity to eat one, is nothing more than a fake, patented by the sacred writers to hide the nature of some sorcery by the wizard made miracles of Assisi on animals, including preaching to the birds.

Hawks & birds ... and birds! STEP 6

Now we do a trip on the oldest book that narrates the life of Saint Francis sir.

This is the life before, that Thomas of Celano wrote in 1228, ie just two years after the death of the worthy. Why I asked you to do? Simple, because Celano is the first of the sacred writers counterfeiters who invents the story of Francis animal before its time, to justify all the lectures and all the birds made gentle of wolves that had once made the famous Assisi a man.

Trying to hide the least worst of the many skeletons in the closet of the poor, Celano shot a big, coming to even write that Francesco had so much compassion for the creatures weaker than the worms off the streets to prevent them passing crush (FF 458).

Urban Lottery. Course description

Made with Slideshow Embed Tool

Urban Lottery is an intensive course lasting 10 days to see the city as a source of inspiration for design projects.
The workshop is structured around three key points.
In the first, each group is assigned two sites chosen by a map of Milan containing a selection of interesting places (streets, bars, squares, metro, places with few features).

The allocation of places to visit is by extraction. During exploration, students must fulfill a number of tasks: observations, photographs, interpretations.

In the second step of the workshop, students are asked to compose two short stories, one for each site visited. The original story has to satisfy a constraint (an "if" in English "what if"), which, again, they are awarded through a draw. Constraints are of provocation to ignite a creative response and to characterize aspects of the narrative line (for example, if this place was a place of pilgrimage, if only women were allowed in this place, if a song had been written on this site )

The first two steps are repeated with two other places. In this second exploration students new tasks: to photograph 10 people met in that place, pick a color and do 10 pictures in which that color is dominant. In this round are invited to write one story, but it must connect the two places, meeting a new constraint narrative (a new "if"). Students should thus create value from their fictions, narrative structures in which the world as we know it continues to exist, but which is introduced in a cultural or social difference.

At this point the students have three stories, four places, some comments and a selection of photographs. Students then select the story stronger to use as a basis for developing a draft design for the protagonists of the story. After unwittingly created their abnormal principals, are called to a creative process more or less conventional (brainstorming, concept development, production of a set of final papers).

Once you get consistency in the activity of the project group (each group consists of three persons), students are divided, followed by lectures on each of the three tutor and begin to produce the final papers: a presentation of their project building a cardboard prototype, a short video that tells a story of the object context to his creative process (and in which the prototype is to appear in paper), a graphic object (a folder) that summarizes the various features of the project (for which you was drawn, the narrative from which it was triggered, how it is used), and contain an image for product communication.

In my stream of the workshop the activity Involves creating a 3D representation of the object Being designed. This object is to be used in the video That documents the overall activity as well as in the graphical That document are the other two workshops on the deliverables.

The constraint on the design of this object Is that it must be produced in paper. There are several reasons for this: paper is readily available and inexpensive, we all have some experience of building things in it, you can use various forms of software to create patterns for it (or importantly you can just cut it without using any computer at all) and finally lends the objects made in the workshop an overall visual coherence.

Although the objects will be made in paper this does not imply that they are made poorly or in an unconsidered way. Rather the opposite - we expect each object to be carefully crafted and ambitious in aim. I found some links to people who are making interesting things with paper

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Commoncraft produce educational videos that explain sometimes complex subjects using extremely simple elements made from paper. Their work is very interesting because the simplicity of the communication belies the level of care and thought that goes into producing the videos.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Canon operates a website called Creative Park where visitors can download patterns to produce models from paper. The site is a fantastic repository of techniques for shaping paper in many and various ways (almost all the models feature large areas of flat colour, the better to use up your printer ink and encourage you to buy more from Canon...)

In the first day of building we constructed two of the models from the site - representations of the Copernican and Ptolemaic views of the universe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Martin Postler is a recent graduate of the RCA, he created a 1:1 scale replica of the AK-47 gun entirely from paper.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Peter Callensen is a Danish Artist who makes most of his work from single sheets of A4 paper. He cuts the paper with virtuoso levels of skill to create small sculptures, they are conceptually a little weak, but still impressive.

------------------------------------------------- ---------------------

Thomas Demand Could Probably rival Callensen stakes in the virtuous, But has an added layer of conceptual complexity. He is a contemporary artist who builds miniature replicas of interiors and environments Entirely from paper. The photographs Have an extraordinary quality, rendered even more poetic by the fact That he destroys the models ounces They Have Been photographed.

Bushnell 1500 Vs 1600 Pinseeker

October 4, 2008: Let's party!

However we want to see, October 4th is an important date in our history.
Assisi, that night in 1226, did not die just a man-discussed and controversial was a politician? a barker? a magician? In fact, contrary to trends and certain cloying choruses parish, not the death of Francis in the small Umbrian village is celebrated every year on time. Moreover, the Church can not wait to die, his life too radical, too-broad consent, and if Francis was still alive today, certainly you can bet that no rejoicing at all for those stigmata Pope Gregory IX who had tried every means to conceal.
On closer inspection, not much gioirebbero even the friars of the Sacred Convent, whose ancestors in 1221 prompted him to resign as general fraternitas because too unpopular with the pope. For them, some are better there, buried under that mound of rock's more like a bell with such a silencer, not a monument to the memory. Not to mention, however, advocates of peace at all costs? People on the left, right, but grew up with the rosary in the red shirt and a peculiar idiosyncrasy for atheists, you know, good customs of the country. If you study a bit more about the Franciscan sources, they will realize that their affection saint of the 'dialogue' preached right and left the crusade against the infidels, and that the temple of peace and harmony that has become home to the Basilica of Assisi is still intact on the lower floor, the tomb of John of Brienne, the lord of that War who organized and ran the fifth crusade, devoted friend of the poor and reciprocated.
will be an affront to the history and dignity of all this, but it does not matter. They won them and now there is nothing else than leaving cheer. They won the followers of Francis of October 4, the dead and buried, wrapped in the grave, much like the hierarchy. Needless to explain that read the sources would be an excellent antidote to not fall into the trap again, not to believe that a sorcerer, who was begging for approval spells when the Church forbade openly, have a clean criminal record. But so be it.
One question we are left unresolved, and is the most absurd. October 4, 2008 that, in reality, not a funeral, commemorating the death of a man with his boundless ambition, and its many weaknesses, but a birthday. It will be a mirage, but a force to watch in disbelief and appalled collective organ of smiles and cheers of jubilation, there seems to glimpse a cake in the middle of the crowd, a big cream cake with lots of candles. How many? More or less, I'd say there are 800, sir. Yes, he felt good, to put out 800 candles all at once, but do not worry, the sheep around the grave with the silencer has a sufficient number of mouths to extinguish them all. It takes them too good to be a saint! Not even a fold, there is still fully dressed and pressed to tell its 800 springs, as if he already knew that the story survives more easily by saints as heretics. Perhaps under that mound of rock, even a few tears fall from her face, it is not, in fact, that those who have spent a lifetime playing on human gullibility at the end is not moved a bit to much unexpectedly stupidity.
We do not just have to get comfortable melancholy beyond the zone, disturbed only by a hissing sound that echoes from time to time behind us. "Happy birthday, San Francisco! "
